The smoothness makes her seem so life like. Thats amazing. What Wacom tablet would you recommend? i'm using a Genius tablet and it makes it all look choppy. If you could help, that'd be great!

I was a little worried about the smoothness. Real skin has
texture and little imperfections and I was thinking maybe
the smooth, glossy look was too fake. I've been experimenting
with skin texture, with varying degrees of success.

Never heard of the Genius tablet. I just took a look at your
journal and read about all the problems you're having with
your tablet. You might have to trash it and get a Wacom. I
have the Bamboo ($200) and it does everything I want it to
and gives me no problems. I'm looking at other galleries on
dA and so many of the artists are using the Wacom Intuos
or the Cintiq (drawing directly on the screen) and I'm curious
about those but I've never used them.

I took a peek at your gallery and I don't really know what you mean
when you say your results are choppy. But the Bamboo is reliable
and they've sold millions of them, or you could get an Intuous
for very little more.

Thank you very much. i really appreciate your knowledge. And i was looking at the Bamboo but it looked too small to me :D but i guess i can manage.
Choppy: Mainly when i do the art, each mark is very pixelated especially on close ups and the lines don't comply with a normal stroke to me (Maybe its just me.). i took a class about 3 years ago for Painter 8 in college and no matter how much i zoomed, it still looked unpixelated.
But all in all, thank you again, now i know what to look for.
:D

The Bamboo comes in several sizes. I have the 6 x 8, but they
make bigger ones.

When you zoom in close with Photoshop, or any pixel based
program, you will indeed see the pixels. You have to start out
low-res, like maybe 72-200 dpi, and then when you get into
the teensy-weensy details, like the hair or around the eyes, ramp
up your picture size to something like 300 dpi or even higher.
Of course when you increase the size like that, you will notice
that everything gets slower.

Those who can, do; those who can't, teach; those who can't teach become coaches; those who can't coach become administrators.

lol, nice. but, in essence, aren't teachers, tutors, coaches, and mentors just the same occupation, just with different levels of involvement?

Photoshop CS with a Wacom tablet. I've got a
tutorial in my gallery that shows more or less
how I did all of them. No pencilling and then scanning;
all digital from sketch to finished art.
